Happy New Year | 2018
The Roman philosopher Seneca said, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." The 1990s band Semisonic later made this quote a little more well known in pop culture with their hit "Closing Time."
In an incredibly remarkable year for our community, 2017 saw Irvine:
hold Irvine's 3rd Annual Winter Wonderland at City Hall
submit a bid for Amazon's HQ2
see a major renovation at the Woodbridge Village Center
open the FivePoint Amphitheater with Irvine's own Young the Giant
named America's 3rd Most Prosperous City
named America's Safest City for its size for the 12th year in a row
named 9th Best City in America to Raise a Family
see all of Irvine's high schools recognized in the top 10% of schools in the country
open the first phase of the Sports Complex at the Orange County Great Park
start a Police mounted unit that included horses Captain and Frosty
named 6th Least Stressed City in America
re-constitute our City Transportation Commission
become home to the Orange County Soccer Club
take the right steps in working to bring Wild Rivers back to Irvine
become home to OC Music & Dance and Orange County's Pacific Symphony
high schools united in the Pacific Coast League as an all-City league
and so much more ...
It's newsworthy events and announcements like this, the gatherings to which you and your community organizations invite me, that make the opportunity to serve Irvine such a joy in my life.
May we continue to be richly blessed in 2018 as we have this past year.
My very best wishes to you and your families for a happy and healthy New Year.
