Earth Day 2022
Today is Earth Day!
This morning, I started off my day with organizing cans and bottles for pick-up from my friend Ryan Hickman and a service he provides folks in Irvine called Recycle from Home. Anyone can help by reducing the amount of waste we produce, reusing some of the containers and packaging we have, and recycling other products.
Tomorrow, the City will be hosting an Earth Day celebration at Quail Hill Community Center. Guided hikes and other demonstrations begin at 11 a.m. For more information, click here.
This week, the City Council and I have been receiving e-mails from constituents about the Mayor's Monarch Pledge. It has been an initiative that I've been reading up on. Butterflies and other pollinators are an important part of our ecosystem. I myself have a number of regional milkweeds in my backyard attracting seasonal butterflies. It's also important to support food companies who do the same. One of my favorites is Haagen-Dazs, but there are many more, too! Click here to learn more.
Did you know that Irvine has a Non-Toxic pesticides policy? Whether it's our medians and parkways, or sports fields that youth athletes and adult enthusiasts enjoy, Irvine manages its open spaces and green spaces with organic pesticides. Click here to learn more.
